MIGRANT YOUTH VISION PROJECT
Skip navigation

Our Migrant Youth Vision Project (MYVP), funded through YTS by Department of Home Affairs, supports young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds in four areas:

  • Employment
  • Education
  • Training
  • Sports and social participation

Delivered by an experienced, passionate and diverse team from over 10 different nationalities covering all continents and speaking over 12 languages.

MYVP participants are supported to develop their confidence, motivation and creativity to achieve their aspirations and become resourceful to play an active role amongst their peers and communities.

In 2022 alone, our team engaged more than 380 clients and helped over 100 young people secure paid work opportunities. For many young people, it’s their first job, and an exciting opportunity to develop transferable skills which prepare them to advance their careers and explore their options.

MYVP Activities:

Beach trip

Our annual beach trip is a full-day trip to the Gold Coast where we bring over 70 MYVP eligible clients who spend a whole day alongside other young peers learning and making the most of the school holidays.

As part of the activity, MYVP collaborates with Queensland Surf Lifesaving who deliver interactive activities, both educational as well as in the water.

Some of the young people attending have never seen the beach in Australia before.

This is one of MYVP clients most favourites activities and they wait for summer holidays to join each year!

Keys2Freedom

This is a 4 steps journey for MYVP clients who are in the process of getting a QLD drivers license.

Step 1: Prep for L’s – introduction to getting Learner License

Step 2: Get behind the Wheel – Keys2Drive (5hr discounted lessons)

Step 3: Target 100 – Braking the Cycle (to complete 100hrs of driving)

Step 4: Prep for P’s – introduction to getting Provisional License

MA Youth Cup

A classic MYVP school holidays activity where over 80 young people join an indoor soccer tournament and spend a day alongside other peers playing sports and fostering new social connections.

A school holidays event where young people gather bright and early in the morning, they are welcomed by the registrations team, enjoy morning tea while socialising with other young people. The team welcomes the players into the field and the tournament begins mid-morning. We stop for lunch and more social engagement before the semi finals and finals take place in the afternoon. All teams are acknowledged and players take trophies and medals home.

Young people are also informed about other MYVP activities and individual support available for them. Participants from the MA cup go home after a day where they played sports, engaged with other young peers and learnt about support services available.

We’ve seen many familiar faces throughout the many MA Youth Cups that were run throughout the recent school holiday periods.

How can I get involved in the MYVP Youth Cup?

Please complete the Expression of Interest form here and our team will be in touch.
