Our migrant and refugee youth program

Our Migrant Youth Vision Project (MYVP), funded through Youth Transition Support (YTS) in the Department of Home Affairs, supports young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds in the areas of employment, education, training, sports and social participation.

Delivered by an experienced, passionate and diverse team of youth workers with lived experience as migrants and refugees, the program helps youth build confidence and creativity and gain independence to pursue their aspirations and make a positive impact in the community.

In 2022, our team engaged more than 380 clients and helped over 100 young people secure paid work opportunities. For many young people, it’s their first job, and an exciting opportunity to develop transferable skills which prepare them to advance their careers and explore their options.

Beach trip

Our annual beach trip is a day trip to the Gold Coast where our young people learn water safety skills, connect with each other and get to experience new sights. For many young people, it’s their first time going to the beach.

The trip is delivered in partnership with Queensland Surf Livesaving.

A four-step journey for clients to obtain their driver’s license, Keys2Freedom helps our young peope build confidence and become more independent.

  • Step 1: Prep for L’s – introduction to getting Learner License
  • Step 2: Get behind the Wheel – Keys2Drive (5hr discounted lessons)
  • Step 3: Target 100 – Braking the Cycle (to complete 100hrs of driving)
  • Step 4: Prep for P’s – introduction to getting Provisional License

A classic MYVP school holiday activity, the MA Youth Cup brings together more than 80 young people for an indoor soccer tournament promoting an active lifestyle, social connection and community building.

On the day, youth are welcomed by the registrations team, and enjoy morning tea while socialising with other young people before the team welcomes the players onto the field for the tournament kick off. We stop for lunch and more social engagement before the semi-finals and finals take place in the afternoon. All teams are acknowledged, and players receive trophies and medals.

We who have come from many places acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land which always was and always will be Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island land. We pay our respects to their Elders throughout all time. We walk together in solidarity of the pain of the past and the shared hope for the future.
