Our dedicated Community Development team collaborates with culturally diverse communities state-wide, to provide a warm and inclusive welcome to newly arrived Queenslanders. Our goal is to ensure that these individuals feel a sense of belonging and connection in their new home.

One of the key aspects of our community engagement is facilitating connection between newly arrived clients and community organisations through our welcome hubs. These hubs serve as safe spaces for newcomers to engage in various life skills workshops and activities, fostering essential skills for their integration into Australian society. From English conversation classes to women’s groups and youth gatherings, these activities work to minimise social isolation and promote social interaction amongst community members.

Our team actively collaborates with community and faith leaders from both emerging and established refugee background communities. This collaboration is crucial in identifying and addressing barriers to employment, accessing social support, and overcoming challenges faced by those looking to start a business. By working closely with leaders, we provide customised support and services to suit the specific needs of these communities.

We foster economic participation and social inclusion by partnering with community organisations. Our collaborative efforts focus on empowering vulnerable members within these communities, ensuring they have access to resources, opportunities, and support networks. By building these bridges, we create stronger, more resilient communities that support one another.

We also prioritise upskilling our clients and communities to enhance their self-sufficiency and self-reliance. Through life skills training, we equip individuals with essential practical knowledge for everyday living. Financial literacy training is another vital component, as it empowers individuals to manage their finances effectively and plan for a more secure future. Additionally, we provide disaster management workshops to prepare our clients and communities for unexpected challenges, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to navigate through difficult times.

Our Community Development Team is committed to fostering a sense of welcome, inclusion, and support for newly arrived Queenslanders. We strive to create a supportive environment that empowers individuals to thrive, enhance their skills, and contribute to the prosperity and harmony of Queensland’s culturally diverse society.

We who have come from many places acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land which always was and always will be Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island land. We pay our respects to their Elders throughout all time. We walk together in solidarity of the pain of the past and the shared hope for the future.
