FUTURE LEADERS ADVOCACY GROUP
MIGRANT YOUTH VISION PROJECT

The Welcome Café is a charity café operated by MYVP within Multicultural Australia to provide young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds with free 7-week barista training program.

This program equips young people with:

  • barista skills
  • customer service
  • work experience

Upon completion of the program, 2 trainees are selected and referred to the Gardens Club Café where they transition towards paid employment.

The Welcome Café operates pop up stations at key Multicultural Australia events such as LUMINOUS and MOSAIC. We support young people to gain employment through the Welcome Café, with many securing jobs with the Gardens Club, run by the WISE Foundation.

The trainees are predominantly MYVP eligible clients, and we also engage local schools who have a current work experience program so their students can complete their hours in a safe and welcoming environment.

We are currently welcoming students from St. James College and Milpera State High School.

Multicultural Australia respects and values Australia’s First Nation peoples’ enormous resilience, courage, determination and often unrecognized contributions to this country’s social and economic development.
