The Queensland Government has announced 11 LGAs across South-East Queensland will be entering a three-day snap lockdown from 4.00pm today, Saturday 31 July 2021.
Leaving home in these areas during lockdown is only permitted to obtain essential goods, for healthcare and for essential work and education. Funerals and weddings will be restricted to 10 people from 4.00pm today. The restrictions also apply to anyone who has been in the affected regions from 1.00am Saturday 31 July.

Queensland Health has declared all of New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria as hotspots, with the New South Wales Border Zone now reinstated.
Face masks will continue to be mandatory in 11 council regions across South East Queensland until 6.00am on Friday 30 July, and anyone who has been in a South East Queensland impacted area in the last 14 days must continue to wear a face mask.

Multicultural Australia (MA) has made good progress bringing our systems and applications back online following a cyber incident on 3 July 2021.
This includes the restoration of our key corporate systems, as well as reinstatement of many of the integrations between applications supporting our business processes.
MA continues to partner with third-party incident response and threat eradication specialists to ensure integrity across our digital environment, and we have taken rigorous measures to identify, contain and eradicate the threats responsible.
We continue to work closely with leading external technical and forensic advisors to respond to the incident. We have also instructed external legal advisors to assist from a privacy and data protection perspective. While our investigation and assessment of this incident is ongoing, at this stage we have no information which suggests that any information held on our systems has been taken or misused.
We are proud of the dedication shown by our staff in ensuring we remain operational and continue to serve our clients and community since the incident occurred.
We are looking ahead and focused on delivering our mission and meeting our strategic priorities in 2021 and beyond.
Queensland Health has reaffirmed that mandatory face masks and other restrictions remain in place across South East Queensland, Townsville, Magnetic Island & Palm Island.
Queensland has current contact tracing alerts and related public health advice for people who have been in Queensland, New South Wales, Northern Territory, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia.
Anyone who has been in inner Sydney and other parts of New South Wales in the last 14 days must quarantine for 14 days immediately after returning to Queensland.

As announced by the Queensland Premier this morning, Greater Brisbane will go into lockdown from 5pm today for three days until 5pm on Thursday 1 April 2021.
This is to give contact tracers time to ensure that further cases of COVID-19, including the highly infectious UK strain, are not circulating in the community.
The Greater Brisbane lockdown area includes Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Redland, and Moreton Bay local government areas.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated around the world on the 8th of March.
It is a day when all women are recognised for their achievements and it is a central point for action to build support for women’s rights and their full participation in the economy, politics, community and in everyday life.
Multicultural Australia is sharing the stories, hopes and messages of Brisbane women for this International Women’s Day; women who have come from across the globe and now call this place home.
Overwhelmingly, their messages are for women to celebrate themselves, believe in themselves and recognise women’s strength. They call on women to find resilience together in the face of challenges, tragedy and adversity.
Now, more than ever, we elevate and listen to the stories and experiences of women so we can achieve the goals of International Women’s Day on this day, and every day; the goals of justice, of equality, of full representation and participation of women, and for women’s rights to be protected here in Australia and across the world.

Multicultural Australia is delighted to congratulate our former CEO and friend Kerrin Benson who has been appointed a Member (AM) of the Order of Australia (General Division), announced today in the 2021 Australia Day Honours List.
The Order of Australia recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement. Kerrin has been recognised for significant service to the multicultural community and to refugee settlement.
Kerrin has dedicated her career to building a multicultural nation where communities are welcoming, diversity is celebrated, and where everyone feels a sense of belonging and inclusion.
In addition to her advocacy, sector and community development during her 16-year tenure as CEO of Multicultural Australia (formerly MDA), Kerrin has given her time and expertise on multiculturalism and settlement to advisory groups across all levels of government, intent on building prosperous, harmonious multicultural communities. Most recently, Kerrin was a member of the Prime Minister’s independent review into the integration, employment and settlement outcomes for refugee and humanitarian migrants to Australia. Kerrin is currently a member of the Refugee and Migrant Services Advisory Council, providing practical advice to the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs on improving settlement outcomes for humanitarian entrants and other migrants.
In particular we note Kerrin’s deep relationships with new and emerging refugee and diverse cultural communities across Australia and her collaboration and advocacy with business, community groups and peak bodies across all sectors in the pursuit of community interests.
Kerrin joins Gail Hyslop OAM, one of our organisation’s founding members, as leadership alumni of Multicultural Australia recognised by the Order of Australia for service to the multicultural community.

We recognise that this land always has been Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land and always will be.
