Giri Sivaraman joined the Board in April 2018 and has held the role of Chair since 1 July 2021. He previously held the role Deputy Chair from November 2019, and is also a member of the People and Culture Committee. Mr Sivaraman is a Principal at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers and holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) from Macquarie University. He is also a member of the Queensland Multicultural Advisory Council.

The Brisbane Lions are a professional sports club that has teams that compete in the AFL (Australian Football League) and AFLW (Australian Football League Women’s) competitions.
The Brisbane Lions were formed on 4 July, 1996, when the AFL approved a merger between the Brisbane Bears and the Fitzroy Lions.
The club was officially launched on 1 November 1996 and joined the national competition in 1997.
It was the first union of two clubs in VFL/AFL history – the perfect combination of an emerging force, full of youthful enthusiasm and energy, with a proud foundation club, overloaded with history and tradition.

Essentially, AFL is about two opposing teams attempting to kick goals and finish the match with the biggest points score.
A goal is scored when the football is kicked through the tall, inner posts (the goalposts) and it is worth six points.
If the football goes between a goalpost and either of the shorter outer posts (the behind posts), a behind is scored and one point is added to that team’s tally.
The action continues through four quarters and for close to two hours.
Our game is for all shapes and sizes. Whether you are tall or short, fast or slow, there is a place for you. There are also other opportunities to learn new skills and umpire and coach too.

My wife, Yeshi Belihu is the chef at our beautiful restaurant, Yeshi Buna.
Yeshi Buna is on Beaudesert Road, Moorooka, a suburb six kilometres south of Brisbane City.
Buna means coffee in Amharic. Yeshi Buna translates to Yeshi’s Coffee.
We have many different condiments that are essential for a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony in our restaurant and we occasionally hold these traditional ceremonies at Yeshi Buna. Coffee started in Ethiopia and is a very prominent part of its culture. It was discovered in a region called Kafa, that is why almost everyone calls it ‘Coffee’. There are many restaurants and coffee houses in Ethiopia.
We arrived in Australia on Australia Day 1999, and we love to celebrate our arrival to this beautiful country with Australia Day celebrations.
We started Yeshi Buna 9 years ago and we have continued to serve our traditional Ethiopian cuisine and fine cultural coffee. It is a great place for people to get together, enjoy good food and conversation. We also take great pleasure in showing Australians the side of Ethiopia that the world doesn’t often portray; the beautiful and wholesome side.

We are an international, voluntary, lay Catholic organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing assistance to anyone in need.
We are a member and volunteer-based charity where Vincentians (Members belonging to local community-based Conference teams) help people in their community when they need assistance.
We do this by visiting them in their homes, welcoming them in our support centres, helping others through our government and Society-funded services, providing material aid generously given by our donors and offering affordable items in our Vinnies shops.
We offer newly arrived migrants and refugees support in adjusting to Queensland life.
Services include case management, social engagement activities and English language tutoring.
More recently, the Society has offered assistance to migrants and refugees coming out of detention as they make the transition to independent living within local communities.
A free migration and visa legal advice service is also provided by appropriately qualified volunteers.
