The Major Events team exists to promote a positive conversation about multiculturalism and inclusion and build a community of interest that will influence and advance multiculturalism in Australia through their interaction with our major events and celebrations. We lead Multicultural Australia’s annual program of events designed to build a welcoming, inclusive and multicultural Queensland where everyone belongs and is celebrated for their rich social, cultural and economic contribution.

What you can expect from this role:

  1. Coordinate the planning, delivery, evaluation and reporting of Multicultural Australia’s major events that align with the organisation’s vision and strategic plan.
  2. Coordinate grants and sponsorship applications and contracts and manage the human and financial resources required to delivery major events.
  3. Develop and implement an agreed annual calendar of events that align with Multicultural Australia’s strategic pillar of changing the conversation and advancing multiculturalism.
  4. Coordinate events including risk management, health and safety requirements, site and program logistics, event content programming, venue hire and management of artists, presenters, volunteers, event crew, service contractors and photographers.
  5. Prepare event reports and acquittal reports for funders, sponsors and other stakeholders.
  6. Assist with funding and sponsorship applications for the major events, ensuring alignment with the major events purpose.
  7. Work closely with teams across Multicultural Australia to effectively plan, market, promote and manage major events, including facilitating a strong engagement of clients and communities.
  8. Assist in coordinating volunteers to assist with the event delivery and ensure each event adheres to the organisational and health and safety directions.
  9. Organise event planning meetings, liaise with government and other stakeholders and service providers; and prepare and report on event project and operational plans, site maps, and event permit applications.
  10. Assist with engagement and management of stallholders, exhibitors, presenters, activity providers, workshops facilitators and other event program elements.
  11. Any other duties as required by your Line Manager.

What do we need from you:

  1. Possession of tertiary qualifications and/or experience – Bachelor of Business – Event Management, project management, marketing, or related fields.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in project and event planning, management, delivery and reporting.
  3. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders and partners, including but not limited to government, corporate, community, media, contractors and sponsors.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing contracts and grant agreements including writing grants and acquittal reports, budgeting and financial management and stakeholder management.
  5. Significant experience in coordinating and delivering large scale events including risk management, site and program logistics, event content programming, venue hire and management of artists, presenters, volunteers, event crew and service contractors.
  6. Good judgement to make decisions in line with organisational policies and procedures when working in a fast-paced environment.
    Detail-oriented, with strong time management and project management skills and the ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines.
  7. Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload, work independently and take initiative in collaboration with teams across Multicultural Australia.
  8. Valid Queensland Driver’s License.
  9. Possession of, a current paid Working with Children’s Blue card in accordance with the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000, and;
  10. National Police Clearance Check.
