Our work

Multicultural Australia seeks to provide support to our culturally and linguistically diverse communities in a way that is culturally safe and respectful. We are committed to advancing multiculturalism in Australia and creating a sense of belonging for new Australians. Staff undergo training on working with cultural difference and working with refugees, and are able to utilise translators and interpreters where required. We also employ a number of Cultural Support Workers to assist with providing our culturally and linguistically diverse clients with culturally appropriate support. Considerations for cultural difference are also made in the organisation of our facilities, with prayer rooms available for clients, staff, and community. Language and attitudes that are discriminatory towards people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are not tolerated within our organisation.

Multicultural Australia also participates in multiple initiatives for collaboration with and advocacy alongside culturally and linguistically diverse communities and individuals, such as the Client Voice Reference Group and Community Leaders Group.

Multiculturalism in Queensland

Multicultural Australia coordinates multiple annual events throughout Queensland in support of multiculturalism. Each year we host LUMINOUS Lantern Parade and MOSAIC Festival, celebrating the diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds of Queenslanders, and welcoming all new Queenslanders.

Acknowledgement of country
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of all the lands on which we meet, work and live and recognise that this land has always been and always will be Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land.

Multicultural Australia respects and values Australia’s First Nation peoples’ enormous resilience, courage, determination and often unrecognized contributions to this country’s social and economic development. We walk together in solidarity in the shared pain of the past and with shared hope for the future.
