'Our Journey' for World Refugee Day 2022

Join Multicultural Australia on 'Our Journey' for World Refugee Day

‘Our Journey’ is a celebration of the spirit and courage of refugees – in spoken word, world music, dance and film.

We invite you to join Multicultural Australia at Brisbane's iconic La Boite Theatre to experience a day to enjoy our culturally diverse community.

This year 'Our Journey' includes an incredible selection of music and dance with the World Refugee Concert as well the screening of the Academy award nominated animated documentary film 'Flee'.

‘Flee’ tells the extraordinary true story of a refugee man on the verge of marriage, which compels him to reveal his hidden past. Recounted mostly through animation, ‘Flee’ was nominated in the Best Documentary Feature and Best Animated Feature categories at the 2021 Academy Awards, and premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. View the trailer here.

‘Our Journey’ concludes with a multicultural panel discussion hosted after the screening of the film.

Throughout the afternoon, an array of multicultural food and craft stalls will be available.

Acknowledgement of country
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of all the lands on which we meet, work and live and recognise that this land has always been and always will be Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land.

Multicultural Australia respects and values Australia’s First Nation peoples’ enormous resilience, courage, determination and often unrecognized contributions to this country’s social and economic development. We walk together in solidarity in the shared pain of the past and with shared hope for the future.
