Desired Qualifications or Attributes

  • Diploma or Certificate in Social and Community Services or a related field.
  • Experience in supporting refugee and humanitarian entrants, ideally in a settlement services environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with data management systems.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work cross-culturally and build effective relationships.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain attention to detail.
  • QLD Driver’s Licence, Blue Card, and National Police Clearance required.

The Role:

As a Connections Support Worker, you will play a critical role in supporting individuals and families as they navigate the challenges of settling into a new community. You will collaborate with Connection Coordinators to deliver culturally responsive guidance, information, and support to facilitate clients’ successful integration and connection with their new environment.

This is a full-time, ongoing role based in Brisbane, Ipswich, or Logan.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Welcome clients into the Connection and Belonging settlement program and support attendance at information sessions.
  • Provide culturally competent services, including case management support, emotional support, and life skills development.
  • Assist clients in building social networks within their cultural or religious communities.
  • Collaborate with Community Development, Employment, and Lifeskills teams to deliver group programs aligned with client needs.
  • Maintain accurate records in CS Net and government data management systems, ensuring compliance and timely submission of claims.
  • Participate in team meetings, networking events, and community awareness initiatives.
  • Act as a first point of contact for crises or incidents, escalating as needed.

Additional Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in a not-for-profit organisation, particularly with community engagement and support programs.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices.
  • Additional language skills relevant to client groups would be highly regarded.
