We hear a lot about refugees and people seeking asylum, but we don’t often hear from the people themselves.

In My Country is a podcast sharing the stories of six Aussies who came to Australia as refugees or people seeking asylum.  Stories of identity, religion, sexuality, the arts, parenting, culture, fashion, meaning, purpose, and the many places we call home.

In My Country's first episode is with Alyas Taqawi.  Alyas was born in Afghanistan and arrived in Australia on a boat in 2010.  In conversation, Alyas examines his experiences with identity, religion, and luck: what brought him to the decision to board a boat to Australia, how did it all unfold, and what has he learned from it all?

For this conversation with Alyas, In My Country has been nominated for Best Interview at the 2020 Australian Podcast Awards. You can also vote for them for the People’s Choice Award here
