The Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) provides settlement support and Case Management to newly arrived humanitarian entrants by creating opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge to achieve social and economic well-being in their new communities. Members of the HSP Case Management Team support newly arrived humanitarian entrants through tailored and holistic case management, applying holistic, person-centred and culturally informed frameworks, with specific focus on supporting clients to achieve outcomes across English, education, employment and community engagement.
What you can expect from this role:
- Provide culturally competent case management and coordination to people from a diverse range of refugee and humanitarian backgrounds.
- Complete a comprehensive psychosocial needs assessment with individual clients and families and develop a case management plan which focuses on needs and aspirations.
- Provide emotional support to clients in a culturally sensitive way with an understanding of acculturation and the continuing impact of past torture and trauma on clients.
- Work collaboratively with Bicultural Workers to provide direct case management with individual clients and their family members.
- Identify mental health risk factors, completing a mental health screen and ensuring appropriate referral of clients to specialised mental health supports.
- Provide cultural orientation and life skills development to clients and assist clients to develop meaningful social connections including links with members of their culture, origin or religious community.
- Provide crisis intervention support when required to respond to immediate and urgent needs, escalating situations to your Line Manager where a client, agency, staff member or organization is at risk.
- Participate in the emergency on-call roster which involves responding to calls to the Multicultural Australia’s 24 hour emergency mobile phone periodically.
- Develop leadership skills with opportunities to provide leadership with Bicultural Workers and Volunteers in accordance with Multicultural Australia’s policies and procedures.
- Maintain effective collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders to ensure effective planning and delivery of services to clients.
- Deliver client focused advocacy and liaison with community and government agencies to establish pathways for appropriate service options for individual clients, and work collaboratively with government and community agencies.
- Provide case management support outside the Brisbane metropolitan region when required, including, but not limited to Logan, Gold Coast and Ipswich regions.
- Participate in the drop-in centres, along with networking and community awareness raising activities, as well as participate in on-call Emergency Phone Rosters as directed by the relevant Team Leader, and any other relevant duties.

What we need from you:
- Passion for and commitment to providing high quality settlement support to newly arrived humanitarian entrants, with a focus on fostering independence of settlement life skills.
- Well-developed understanding of settlement issues relevant to refugee and humanitarian entrants.
- Significant Case Management experience and proven psychosocial assessment skills, with the ability to design and implement culturally appropriate case coordination plans to enhance the settlement of refugees and humanitarian entrants.
- Well-developed skills in building purposeful relationships with clients to support them to achieve their settlement goals and minimize re-traumatization throughout the settlement process.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively across cultures to assist clients in the various aspects of the settlement process within a team environment, as well as with housing providers and relevant government/community agencies and other external service providers.
- Demonstrated understanding of the role of client advocacy when working within a social justice framework.
- Resilience and tenacity to work in a fast-paced work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and positively in a diverse team environment.
- Ability to provide support, supervision and feedback to Bicultural Workers and Volunteers in the delivery of settlement support.
- High level oral and written communications skills, including the ability to write case plans, complete reports and any other professional documents within strict timeframes.
- Advanced computer literacy and knowledge of MS Office applications.
- Possession of tertiary qualifications in the field of Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology or Human Services. Other relevant qualifications (including overseas qualifications) or experience may be recognised.
- Valid Queensland Driver’s License.
- Possession of, or willingness and eligibility to obtain a Blue Card (Working with Children Suitability Card in accordance with the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000).
- National Police Clearance Check.
- Knowledge of the Humanitarian Settlement Framework and challenges, strengths and policy issues within the context of asylum seekers and refugees.
- Knowledge of the Settlement Council of Australia’s (SCoA) National Settlement Services Outcomes Standards.
