About the role:
Multicultural Australia is currently offering an opportunity for a Construction Group Leader to work as part of our Community Development and Engagement team. Part-time four days a week, fixed-term for 10 months.
The Construction Group Leader is responsible for overseeing the construction site and overall development of trainees who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, such as young people, mature-age job seekers, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, women re-entering the workforce, veterans and ex-service personnel; and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Among other duties, the successful candidate will:
- Oversee the SQW project including project management of the construction and implementing construction work plans in a timely and cost effective manner;
- Explain and demonstrate work tasks to develop trainee skills in all areas of the project;
- Ensure the construction site complies with WH&S legislation and environmental management policies, confirming safe work methods are used by all trainee/site workers in relation to site activities, inspecting work progress and equipment and leading by example with all facets of WH&S;
- Coordinate a group of trainees including motivating, teaching and developing trainees, supervision of work tasks and supporting trainees to submit fortnightly timesheets;
- Design work activities to enhance accredited training and increase trainee engagement;
- Ensure work is conducted in accordance with policy and procedures to ensure client privacy, business confidentiality and records are maintained appropriately;
What qualifications and skills do I need?
You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and have effective communication and interpersonal skills. As well as having a confident and positive personality, you will possess:
- Possession of an industry qualification in Construction exceeding a Certificate I in Construction;
- Demonstrated experience and a strong understanding of the construction industry;
- Demonstrated experience undertaking risk management and assessment on a construction site with strong experience complying with WH&S and environmental legislation and work practices;
- Strong project management skills in the construction industry including the ability to meet project timeframes;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work supportively and collaboratively with stakeholders and lead a diverse team that may include people from a culturally and Linguistically Diverse or Indigenous background;
Successful candidate will be required to have a valid driver’s licence, police check and apply for a Working with Children Blue Card. It is a condition of employment with Multicultural Australia to fulfil all our current and future COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
