A Better Future Together

We are building a community of Queenslanders who are ready to stand up for the rights of new arrivals to our state; to champion their communities and the benefits they bring to Queensland’s economic, social and cultural life.

It’s up to us to change the conversation across our communities to ensure that migrants and refugees are welcomed and included and not targets of personal or systemic discrimination. We all want a better future for our families and communities. We can build that better future together.

By joining our ‘Better Futures Together’ campaign you’ll receive

  • Stories that showcase the contributions refugees and migrants bring to Queensland
  • Invitations to annual events and festivals that celebrate our welcoming Queensland and our rich cultural heritage
  • News and information about issues that might be preventing new Queenslanders from getting a fair go and ideas for how you can help
  • A Change the Conversation Guide that can help you stand up for our welcoming Queensland in your daily lives and conversation with others.

Nobody chooses where they were born, but we can choose to be welcoming to refugees and migrants into our communities and build a better future for all of us.

Let's make it a reality.

Stories

Stories

Each and every one of us has a unique story to tell. At Multicultural Australia, we’re committed to raising the voices of Australians from refugee, migrant or other diverse backgrounds so that the wider community can hear first hand about their lives, their experiences and the contributions they are making to our nation.

Queensland is built on immigration

Migrant communities continue to help Queensland’s economic and communities thrive. Migrants, refugees and international students bring important skills, entrepreneurship, innovation and international connections to our businesses and world-class universities. They settle in regional areas and help them grow. They introduce us to delicious new food and share their music, arts and traditions.

While most of us want to be welcoming and inclusive of new refugees and migrants, unfortunately discrimination based on our cultural assumptions and stereotypes does still occur as well as systemic barriers for people from non-English speaking backgrounds. But this doesn’t have to be the case.

For 22 years, Multicultural Australia has been welcoming migrants and refugees to Queensland with the goal of creating a fairer, more prosperous society for all Queenslanders.

Now we’re asking for your help.

Multicultural Australia is a non-government organisation that relies on the generosity of people across Australia to fully fund its services and programs that support more than 5000 new Queenslanders every year.

Although we receive government funding to cover the costs of our specialist service, such as the Humanitarian Settlement Program, we would not be able to continue our work to build a more welcoming and inclusive Queensland without the generous support of our individual and corporate donors.

Help us build a better future today!

We are Multicultural Australia

Queensland’s settlement service provider for migrants and refugees

For 22 years, Multicultural Australia (formerly Multicultural Development Australia) has been welcoming refugees, people seeking asylum, international students and other new arrivals to Queensland with the goal of creating a fairer, more prosperous society for all Queenslanders.

We support more than 5,000 newly arrived Queenslanders every year, including refugees, international students, people seeking asylum and migrants.

We help them to settle into their new lives, build connections in their communities, find work and study opportunities, learn new skills and feel at home.

We also work with individuals, communities, business and government to help build a more welcoming Queensland through advocacy, cultural training and community events that bring people together, foster understanding and recognise the valuable contribution that new arrivals and migrants make to Queensland.
