The Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) provides settlement support and Case Management to newly arrived humanitarian entrants by creating opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge to achieve social and economic well-being in their new communities. The Humanitarian Settlement Program Accommodation team provides high-quality, agile, and culturally appropriate housing support to newly arrived Queenslanders. Multicultural Australia also provides crucial support to people seeking asylum through the  Status Resolution Support Services (SRSS) program while their refugee status is being processed. SRSS is a  needs-based program that assists people in the community who are waiting for their claim for refugee status to be resolved and who are experiencing barriers to employment,  resolving their immigration status, or returning home. The   Accommodation team provides strategic and operational services to newly-arrived Queenslanders under the Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) and Status Resolution Support Service (SRSS). The primary purpose of this team is to provide appropriate accommodation options for clients under the program.

What you can expect from this role:

  1. Provide accommodation related assistance to achieve the relevant KPI’s for each of the accommodation programs;
  2. Assist in coordinating property preparation for clients in line with each of the program requirements;
  3. Assist in post-arrival lease signups providing appropriate tenancy education to clients to understand the terms of their lease agreement, rent and utility responsibilities, entry condition reports and ownership of furniture package with relevant language support and cultural advice;
  4. Coordinate provision and management of Basic Household Goods (BHG) in line with each of the program guidelines;
  5. Schedule and undertake routine inspections as required; ensuring emergency and non-emergency maintenance is conducted in line with procedures;
  6. Actively monitor and manage outstanding tenancy rent and invoice payments;
  7. Coordinate lease successions, and assist clients to apply for succession of tenancy and facilitate the transition to independent tenancies as required;
  8. Coordinate finalisation of rent and invoice payments for clients relocating, and the handback process for properties no longer required; 
  9. Liaise with Case Management team members and key stakeholders to identify relevant opportunities to provide collaborative support to clients;
  10. Identify gaps and issues affecting our clients from diverse backgrounds and input into reporting and program development;
  11. Provide input into the development of service planning, service delivery and service evaluation, within the frameworks established by Multicultural Australia;
  12. Complete and keep up to date service delivery in Multicultural Australia systems, including Console and relevant case notes in CS Net as required; 
  13. Escalate issues, concerns and provide feedback to team and managers as required;

What do we need from you:

  1. Ability to work independently and creatively in the coordination and delivery of program objectives; 
  2. Experience in housing work, with a passion, and accommodation practice framework, for settlement services including an understanding of the unique challenges faced by newly arrived Queenslanders. 
  3. Well- developed understanding of settlement issues relevant to refugee and people seeking asylum, and good knowledge of the relevant services available to these groups within both the government and community service sectors; 
  4. Excellent communication skills and ability to network with both internal and external program stakeholders in real estate, community and Government organisations to ensure the planning and programming needs of clients are being met; 
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively across cultures to assist clients in the various aspects of the settlement process within a team environment, as well as with housing providers and relevant government/community agencies and other external service providers; 
  6. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and positively in a diverse team environment; 
  7. Ability to provide support, supervision and feedback to Cultural Support Workers, interpreters and Multicultural Australia Volunteers as part of the case management process; 
  8. Excellent time management, negotiation and problem-solving skills; 
  9. Ability to successfully and appropriately convey and facilitate important Australian life skills (specifically regarding tenancy rights and responsibilities) so that clients are able to independently establish their lives in Australia; 
  10. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and experience working with databases, and the ability to deliver high quality professional documents; 
  11. Valid Queensland Driver’s License
  12. Possession of, or willingness and eligibility to obtain a Blue Card (Working with Children Suitability Card in accordance with the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000),
  13. Police Clearance Check.
  14. Relevant experience and current qualifications in the field of real estate and/or, preferably REIQ Certificate IV in Property Services;
  15. Prior experience working in a property management, real estate setting with sound knowledge of relevant residential tenancy legislation;
  16. Previous experience in providing practical support to Multicultural Australia’s client groups; and,
  17. Experience using Property Data Management System (Console).
